Naina Devi Temple Nainital

Naina Devi Temple is an extremely recognized temple of Nainital, situated in the northern side of Naini Lake. The temple is truly dedicated to goddess Naina Devi. The sculpted figures of Mata Kali and Lord Ganesha can also be viewed in the temple. The popular legend associated with the temple is about Sati or Parvati and her consort Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was humiliated by the father of Sati which shocked her deeply and as a result, she ended her life. After knowing this tragic news, Lord Shiva lost his temper and began to destroy three worlds. The other deities got terrified and came to Vishnu for help. Then Vishnu tore the body of Sati into several pieces and at every place where the pieces fell, the fifty-one sacred 'shaktipeeths' got emerged. Naina devi temple was given such a name because the eyes of Sati fell here. There are many shops in the close proximity to the temple from where Parsad(holy food) can be bought. A big tree at the side of temple seems like sheltering the visitors. Also there are idols of Lord Hanuman Ji and Ganesh Ji which flanks the idol of Naina Devi.
